Set within a remnant paperbark forest on the southern side of the Pearl Beach Lagoon, the sculptural two-part building form of box and pavilion was developed to meet the client’s program, their budgetary requirements and to reflect the modest scale appropriate of adjacent houses.

The “box” is two-storey, parapet-walled and clad with fibre cement sheeting. It contains the entrance, the bedrooms and service rooms. The “pavilion” is a steel and timber post-and-beam structure to spanning 1 large clear space. The walls to the street are solid, whilst to the lagoon glass sliding doors maximise views and access to the lagoon, deck and outdoor areas.

A restrained interior palette of recycled blackbutt flooring, white walls and joinery also focuses attention on framed views to the paperbark forest beyond.
