The design opens the living spaces to the garden by consolidating the service rooms into the centre of the house. The new lounge, dining and kitchen areas are designed as a single family room with built-in storage to maximise the usable space. Modulated ceiling heights differentiate rooms and allow northern sunlight into the south-facing room. Openings to the side are built in, dramatise the garden view. A small porch over the south-facing bi-fold doors allows the room to be opened to the garden, defines the threshold and protects the doors.
