North West Metro - Winner of 2020, PIA, AIA, AILA, Australian Urban Design Awards: Built Projects – City and Regional Scale
'This is a groundbreaking rail project that provides mass transit for the north-west area of Sydney and creates an urban structure for the growth of the metropolis. The potential of urban design can only be realized if all disciplines work together for a common goal. It is clear here that this has happened from the very start. The project incorporates art, engineering, green infrastructure and architecture to create beautiful town centre stations and plazas, resulting in a piece of rail infrastructure that is context-sensitive and integrated across all lines.
A light and colour-infused station integrated into the built fabric at Rouse Hill town centre; village stations that reference the forms of eucalyptus trees; shady public spaces with gardens and public art; tree-lined paths and cycleways; a sculpted viaduct offering panoramic views of the landscape for passengers; extensive avenues of native trees; and an integrated connection to the Northwest Transitway are all hallmarks of this benchmark project for the Sydney Metro network.'
