The Marrickville pavilion is a modest addition to the rear of a federation bungalow that sits at the end of the street next to a park.
The rear of the house was previously closed off to both the backyard and the park. The new addition places a 2 level volume on the park boundary. On the ground floor the new kitchen and dining rooms open up to the backyard on the north. Upstairs the new bedroom opens up to the park on the south, with a long picture window that frames the adjacent pines to create a treehouse ambience. By locating the stair under this window, light is also bought down to the back of the living area below. The living areas are sunny, open and dynamic, whilst upstairs the bedroom is quieter, cooler and more restful.
